The EPL’s 5 best strikers for gameweek 6
The English Premier League’s strike force has been at it again, knocking in goals and supplying fantasy football managers with points to dominate their leagues.
Diego Costa sits at the top of the goal scoring charts with five goals thus far, but does he make our list of players to get in your team for gameweek 6? Let us find out.
Kelechi Iheanacho – Manchester City
Games: 4; Goals 2; Assists 3
With Sergio Aguero set to return this weekend for Manchester City, it puts Kelechi Iheanacho’s participation from the start in doubt. Manager Pep Guardiola is really the only person that knows which player will start, yet going on form it would make sense for Iheanacho to get the nod.
Two goals and three assists in four matches (two as a substitute) has Iheanacho performing as one of the breakout players of the Premier League season. City travel to Wales to face Swansea on Saturday, a team they beat midweek in the League Cup.
Iheanacho was subbed off with 10 minutes to go, which may indicate he will start again at the weekend. Don’t be surprised if Aguero does come on for the Nigerian at some point on Saturday. That is, if Iheanacho is in the starting XI.
Diego Costa – Chelsea
Games: 5; Goals: 5; Assists: 1
Chelsea come off last weekend’s defeat to Liverpool with a difficult trip to the Emirates to face Arsenal in Saturday’s late fixture. Diego Costa has been ever-present for Chelsea so far this term, and against Arsenal’s defence, he should continue bullying defenders.
Costa has contributed a goal or assist in each of the Blues’ games this season. With five goals already, Costa leads the Premier League and has scored 50% of Chelsea’s goals in 2016-17.
Get Costa in your team as Chelsea are undefeated against Arsenal in their last five Premier League matches. Chelsea have also kept seven clean sheets in their last eight against the Gunners.
Romelu Lukaku – Everton
Games: 4; Goals 4; Assists 1
Romelu Lukaku has been on a tear for Everton. Four goals and an assist in two matches, the Belgian is massively in form. Get him in your side as the Toffees take on Bournemouth this weekend.
Everton are undefeated in their last three against Bournemouth, and their trip to the south coast should see the Toffees keep that record intact.
Bournemouth have conceded 13 goals, second most in the Premier League, this season. Lukaku should have a big day for Everton.
Alexis Sanchez – Arsenal
Games: 5; Goals: 3; Assists: 1
In form and extremely dangerous, Alexis Sanchez has scored in three of Arsenal’s last four matches in all competitions. The attacker is playing great football, and was the catalyst in Arsenal’s 4-1 win at Hull City last weekend.
Against Chelsea this week, he may not have the space to create or get too many shots off. However, if someone is going to unlock Chelsea’s defence, look for Sanchez to do it as he averages two key passes per game.
Dimitri Payet – West Ham
Games: 3; Goals: 0; Assists: 3
Dimitri Payet will be forgiven if he is greatly fatigued right now. The West Ham attacker was fantastic last season for the Hammers before excelling at the gruelling European Championships over the summer.
He has only played three times this term, once as a substitute. He is just now finding form and the Frenchman has notched three assists in his last two Premier League fixtures.
West Ham have struggled so far in all competitions and sit third bottom going into the Premier League weekend. The Hammers need a big performance from Payet if they’re going to improve. Give the Frenchman a chance this weekend and get him in your fantasy side.
Bonus attacker:
Andros Townsend – Crystal Palace
Games: 5; Goals: 1; Assists: 0
His stat line may not look great, but Andros Townsend was spectacular last weekend against Stoke. Townsend scored his first goal of the season, and as the rule goes, play the in form players.
Crystal Palace travel to Sunderland, the league’s second bottom team, which means he is good value against the Black Cats. Townsend is dangerous in Palace’s attack and is well worth a selection this weekend.
