Gameweek 9 kicks off with a several teams having the chance to finish the weekend top of the English Premier League.
Will the league have a new leader and will one of the 5 fantastic forwards on our list fire his team into first? Let’s see who’s on the list for gameweek 9.
Charlie Austin – Southampton
Games: 7; Goals: 4; Assists: 1; Total FPL points: 36
Charlie Austin finally cracks the FantasySports.co.uk top 5 forwards list this week after his two goal performance against Burnley in gameweek 8.
Despite the Saints taking on Manchester City following a midweek Europa League fixture, Austin’s play earns him a spot on the list. Whether or not you will spend £6.5 million on the forward for your team is up to you. However, his 13 points earned in gameweek 8 make him a punt worth taking.
Diego Costa – Chelsea
Games: 8; Goals: 7; Assists: 2; Total FPL points: 55
Diego Costa doesn’t come cheap, yet his performances warrant Fantasy Premier League teams shelling out their fantasy cash on him. The striker leads the league in goals with seven.
Costa has scored in his last two Premier League games. This week, Chelsea are up against former manager Jose Mourinho and his Manchester United side. Expect United to be set up the same way against Chelsea as they were against Liverpool.
A scrappy, bulldozing Costa is a completely different forward to defend against than Liverpool’s more delicate frontline. Costa getting his eighth goal of the season is a good bet.
Romelu Lukaku – Everton
Games: 7; Goals: 6; Assists: 1; Total FPL points: 50
Romelu Lukaku has the second most points of any forward in Fantasy Premier League. His 50 are just five shy of leader Costa. The Belgian has scored in his last two Premier League fixtures.
This week, Everton take on a Burnley side that has lost two straight and given up a total of 12 goals this season. Lukaku should bully their defence all day long.
Wilfried Bony – Stoke City
Games: 5; Goals: 0; Total FPL points: 10
Yes, it sounds crazy, but Wilfried Bony could have a big game on Saturday in gameweek 9. Bony hasn’t scored a goal yet this season, sure, but Stoke are on the upswing.
The team is playing quite well currently and it is only a matter of time until Bony bangs a couple of goals in.
Gameweek 9 sees the Potters going to Hull. The Tigers have conceded 17 goals in their last four losses. Get Bony into your squad.
Jermaine Defoe – Sunderland
Games: 8; Goals: 4; Total FPL points: 40
Jermaine Defoe hasn’t scored a goal in Sunderland’s last two fixtures, yet the forward is still third in scoring for Fantasy Premier League forwards.
Defoe is all that Sunderland have. The Black Cats haven’t won yet, and Defoe has accounted for 67% of the team’s scoring.
A £7.3m purchase for your team, the only problem is not knowing whether or not Defoe will get any service.
Sunderland travel to West Ham for gameweek 9. The Hammers have given up the second most goals (17) this term. Defoe could add to his goals tally and give Sunderland a massive shot in the arm.
Bonus forward
Sergio Aguero – Manchester City
Games: 6; Goals 5; Total FPL points: 38
Sergio Aguero is a great forward to put into your fantasy team, even with Manchester City playing away to Chelsea.
Last week Aguero accumulated –1 points, and to make things worse, was axed from Pep Guardiola’s starting XI in the Champions League midweek.
Aguero has some great incentives for turning in a big performance. Chelsea’s defence hasn’t been sterling, and has given up the most goals (10) of the teams in the top nine.
Aguero could fire Manchester City back to those heights they were soaring at just a few weeks ago.
