Gameweek 21 saw Chelsea extend their English Premier League lead to seven points after beating Leicester. Meanwhile, Liverpool let a second half lead slip away at Old Trafford as the Reds fell to third.
Manchester United 1-1 Liverpool
Liverpool took a first half lead against Manchester United as James Milner put away a 26th minute penalty. Manchester United’s Paul Pogba gave away the spot kick after handling the ball as he inadvertently made contact during a Liverpool cross.
Unlike at Anfield earlier this season, Manchester United turned up the pressure and kept it on the Reds. Liverpool were saved time and again by goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, who kept in-form Zlatan Ibrahimovic at bay.
However, the big Swede finally foiled the Liverpool shot-stopper. Ibrahimovic’s 83rd minute header broke Liverpool hearts as the striker continues to prove years of English criticism wrong.
In fact, without Ibrahimovic, Manchester United would be much worse off this season. The Swede has tallied 14 goals in 20 games, which has accounted for 44% of the team’s scoring.
Ibrahimovic is now second in Fantasy Premier League points with 130.
Everton 4-0 Manchester City
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City were humiliated at Goodison Park, 4-0, as the Blues lost their second game in three tries.
Everton midfielder Ross Barkley was man of the match as his two assists set up Kevin Mirallas and Tom Davies, respectively.
Romelu Lukaku scored his 12th goal of the season and his second in consecutive Premier League matches. The Belgian is eighth in Fantasy Premier League scoring.
Ademola Lookman added the fourth Everton goal as the Blues’ attack continues to stutter. Premier League and FPL bust John Stones had yet another poor game as his defensive error led to Everton’s fourth score.
Leicester 0-3 Chelsea
Leicester’s nightmare follow up to last season’s Premier League title continues as the Foxes were beaten in gameweek 21 by Chelsea.
The Blues were without Diego Costa, but that mattered very little as Marcos Alonso scored either side of the halftime break.
Pedro got Chelsea’s third as the Blues extended their Premier League lead to seven points.
Swansea 0-4 Arsenal
Swansea’s nightmare continued as Paul Clement’s tenure got off to a diabolical start in gameweek 21. Arsenal never had to get into top gear as the Gunners put four goals past the Swans.
Olivier Giroud opened the scoring just before halftime as the Frenchman slotted home just inside the six-yard box.
Calamity ensued as Swansea turned two goals into their own net. Jack Cork’s own goal put the Gunners two up before Kyle Naughton’s 67th minute own goal put the game out of reach.
FPL points leader Alexis Sanchez added his 14th goal of the season 17 minutes from time as he pushed his points total to 154.
Tottenham 4-0 West Brom Albion
Tottenham moved into second place after destroying West Brom 4-0 at White Hart Lane. Dele Alli once again showed his class as the midfielder picked up another six FPL points.
Teammate Christian Eriksen had a brilliant day as well, tallying 10 points. He and Alli are both in the top six currently in FPL and are showing no sign of slowing down.
Harry Kane’s hat-trick truly stole the show, however, as he gathered 17 gameweek 21 points. Kane’s play has improved in recent weeks and the striker now sits on 105 FPL points.
