The English Premier League still has 13 fixtures to go. With Alexis Sanchez in the best form of his career, and topping fantasy football scoring charts, it is a certainty he will finish as the league’s top scorer, right? Wrong. Football fantasy managers should think again.
Sanchez may be excelling like never before in Arsenal red and white, but there are two players that have the potential to overtake the Gunner in a football fantasy coup. Although Eden Hazard is 36 points behind Sanchez, those points are not impossible to overcome.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is in the same boat. The Manchester United star has continued his illustrious career this football fantasy season at Old Trafford; and despite an early dip in form, Ibrahimovic has kept United scoring goals this term. Ibrahimovic is just 38 points back of Sanchez and has the ability to finish as FPL’s top player. If he does, it would be just another accolade to the Swede’s massive ego.
Why do Ibrahimovic and Hazard have the chance to finish No. 1?
It is simple to why Ibrahimovic and Hazard have the chance to finish atop the football fantasy points scoring list. The potential for points in the remaining fixtures for both players is far greater than Sanchez’s. The remaining fixture list greatly favours Manchester United and Chelsea; and both may have more motivation than Sanchez and Arsenal. Chelsea are chasing the Premier League title and Manchester United are after a return to the Champions League.
The Gunners are going through a mini-crisis after their hammering at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League. And in the Premier League, Arsenal have a far more difficult set of fixtures upcoming. Arsene Wenger’s men will take on Liverpool, Spurs, Manchester City and Manchester United before the end of the season. All four a very difficult fixtures for the top player in football fantasy points scoring.
In the previous meetings between Arsenal and those four opponents, the Gunners were winless, collecting a mere two points. Sanchez scored 10 FPL points in those four matches (2.5 per game) with the City game being his best return (five).
Back Hazard
Not only is Hazard playing in the Premier League’s best team, but the Belgian has the fortune of only playing two more top-six teams: Manchester City and Manchester United. In Chelsea’s previous meetings with the Manchester clubs, Hazard tallied 17 football fantasy points overall.
Hazard’s next five matches come against teams in ninth place or lower. The potential Hazard has is incredible and he should be favoured by any fantasy manager.
Back Ibrahimovic
Like Hazard, Ibrahimovic has been in great form, but his potential isn’t quite as high as the Chelsea forward’s possibilities. This is down to Manchester United’s remaining fixture list. Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Manchester City are all to come at the tailend of the season.
The good news is that despite the difficult fixtures, Manchester United are in their best form of the season. Jose Mourinho’s side are just two points off of the top four as this year’s race for the Champions League will be quite close.
The Red Devils haven’t lost a Premier League match since October 23rd when they were roasted by Chelsea. Ibrahimovic is in his best form yet, and is showing no signs of slowing down. The Swede’s midweek hat-trick against Saint-Etienne should inspire him on for the rest of the term.
With the FPL season heading into the last few months, both Ibrahimovic and Hazard are looking likely of a strong finish.
