Fantasy football gameweek 34 sees four Premier League sides miss out due to the FA Cup. Chelsea play Tottenham and Arsenal clash with Manchester City in the cup semifinal, which eliminates several players that could be on our midfield list for the weekend.
We’ve scoured the Premier League, however, to bring a solid set of midfield magicians to you.
FPL Gameweek 34 top 5 midfielders
Xherdan Shaqiri – Stoke
Total FPL points: 69; GW 33: 13 points
Xherdan Shaqiri has been a huge disappointment since arriving at Stoke in the summer of 2015. Often injured and rarely in-form, the Swiss midfield has shown the same lack of production that has seen him bounce from Bayern Munich to Inter Milan to Stoke.
Gameweek 33 saw glimpses of what Shaqiri can do when he is on his game. A 13 point haul against Hull came after gameweek32’s five point performance against Liverpool. Perhaps it is just Hull that he plays well against, he now has 28 points combined against the Tigers this term.
He is worth a go in FPL gameweek 34 as Stoke play Swansea, a team that defends as about as well as Hull.
Ander Herrera – Manchester United
Total FPL points: 80; GW 33: 13 points
Ander Herrera has never quite lived up to the plans of Old Trafford’s top brass, but the Spaniard has chipped in with decent FPL gameweeks now and again.
Herrera’s 13 points against Chelsea was his first double-digit performance this term. Equalling that this gameweek against Burnley is unlikely, but the Spaniard could surprise a few now that he will get a new contract at Manchester United.
Roberto Firmino – Liverpool
Total FPL points: 166; GW 33: 11 points
Liverpool have a fantastic run of games to close out the season that should see their attackers heap on the points. Roberto Firmino tallied 11 in gameweek 33, and there is no reason he cannot do it again in gameweek 34 against Crystal Palace.
Firmino should be in your fantasy team or your daily fantasy sports team from here on out. He should do better than the six points he did last time against Palace, and for just £8.6, he is decently priced.
Etienne Capoue – Watford
Total FPL points: 115; GW 33: 8 points
Etienne Capoue has put an unlikely 115 total FPL points on the board this season. His six goals have been a revelation and has helped keep Watford out of relegation trouble.
Watford clash with Hull in gameweek 34, and the Tigers are in dire straits. Hull have given up the second most goals in the Premier League (67). Capoue should continue to dominate the middle of the park for the Hornets.
Stewart Downing – Middlesbrough
Total FPL points: 65; GW 33: 5 points
Call it a hunch, but Stewart Downing’s potential for gameweek 34 has piqued my interest. Downing tallied 10 points the last time Middlesbrough played Bournemouth, and with the club needing every point it can get, he will be giving his all for the shirt.
Downing costs £4.9, so if you’ve got space in your side due to the FA Cup, why not draft him in?
