Chelsea Facing Striker Crisis as Diego Costa Set for Exit

Chelsea are facing a striker crisis as Diego Costa is set for the Stamford Bridge exit. Meanwhile, Manchester United have reportedly sealed a deal to bring Everton’s Romelu Lukaku to Old Trafford, ending speculation the Belgian would re-sign for the Blues.

While Costa looks increasingly likely to sign for Atletico Madrid when their transfer ban is lifted in January, the Blues still feel they may have a last minute shot at Lukaku. Everton have not confirmed a deal with Manchester United is imminent. The Blues could make a last ditch offer.

Costa on the other hand has reportedly said his goodbyes to Chelsea teammates as he prepares to return to Spain. He won’t be able to play for Atletico until January and rumours of a loan to a club in the Chinese Super League are making the rounds.

Chelsea may have to switch transfer targets if Lukaku signs with Manchester United. The loss of Costa only compounds the problem at the feet of Antonio Conte, who told the striker he did not want him at the club.

If Chelsea are not able to land Lukaku and Costa does leave, the Blues may look at signing Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid. Chelsea could even make a shock move for former Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The only problem with a move for the Swede is he his still recovering from a long-term knee injury.
