Chelsea fans will be concerned to hear that due to their inability to land Phillipe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele, Barcelona are turning their attention to Willian, as they look to splash their Neymar cash, reports the Metro.
Willian has been a very polarising player at Chelsea – sometimes superb, sometimes frustrating, and doesn’t appear to command the trust of boss Antonio Conte, who seems to prefer Pedro in the attacking midfield position employed by the Blues.
The Brazilian, 29, arrived at Chelsea back in 2013 after spending several seasons at Shakhtar Donetsk and then Anzhi Makhachkala, where he commanded a fee of £30 million to come to England. A similar fee would be expected as a minimum should Barcelona look to make the approach, and it could well be met with positivity, as Conte looks to refresh his midfield options, with Ross Barkley, Riyad Mahrez, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Danny Drinkwater all flashing brightly on the Stamford Bridge transfer radar.
Barcelona, for their part, refuse to accept they have lost out on Coutinho, claiming there are ongoing talks with both the Liverpool midfielder and Dembele to bring them in to the Nou Camp, as well as claiming the have clinched a deal for PSG’s Argentinian ex-Manchester United winger Angel di Maria. But nothing, as yet, has been officially announced and the clock is ticking quickly to the closing of the transfer window.
We do expect to see more transfer activity at Stamford Bridge over this final week of the summer’s transfer activity – whether incoming or outgoing though remains very much to be seen.
