Liverpool are facing increased pressure in hanging on to their 23 year old German international Emre Can, and their fans will be dismayed to hear that Manchester United are now eyeing up Can also.
Can has not signed a new contract at Anfield and is available on a free transfer next summer, although is free to talk to Clubs outside of England in January, with Bayern Munich and Juventus high on the list of teams interested.
But it has been Can’s spectacular start to the season that has alerted Manchester United, with his pace and versatility of particular interest to boss Jose Mourinho, who still feels he needs more directness and speed in the attacking third.
Whilst Liverpool will not want to lose Can, the arrival of Naby Keita could unsettle the star to the point of him feeling his first team place may not be assured. Reds fans would be devastated to lose him to bitter rivals United – but they have shown an appetite in the past to take big Liverpool players and convert them to United red, with Michael Owen being the most recent convert, and would not be put off in making a play for Can, although should he look to move on, Juventus are still the likely destination. But it would certainly be interesting to see a United approach and how both club and player react.
