In our weekly Championship round up, FantasySports.co.uk takes a look at how this fascinating division is shaping up with our 5 points to take away :
LEEDS UNITED LOOKING IMPRESSIVE
The team everyone loves to hate have made an excellent start to the season, and Saturdays demolishment of Burton Albion only served to reinforce that notion. Leeds are the division’s joint top scorers and boast the meanest defence – and although they lie in second place in the table behind pacesetters Cardiff City, they are looking a very good outfit. Upcoming games against Birmingham, Millwall and Ipswich should see this momentum continued, before what looks a mouth watering clash against the afore mentioned division leaders.
ASTON VILLA STRUGGLING AGAIN
Pre season favourites Aston Villa are again floundering towards the bottom of the league table and despite all their activity in the transfer market, are looking listless and dropping points with alarming regularity, having won just one of their opening six games. Fans are already getting very restless at Villa Park, with boss Steve Bruce under pressure to deliver – and as seen last season, a poor start can be very costly in this Division. Results will need to improve and quickly, otherwise the season is in danger of ending before it has started.
HULL CITY – SHOW THEM THE WAY TO GO HOME
For those of us who enjoy a little flutter on the football coupons of a weekend, one thing to note is the away form of Hull City. Hull have not won away from home since the opening day of last season, and in that time have only picked up 3 draws in 22 matches. On Friday, Derby County thrashed them 5-0 in a match as one sided as the scoreline sounds, albeit Hull missed a penalty with the score at 1-0. Up next for Hull, a trip to Fulham. Home win anyone?
BILLY VERY SHARP FOR THE BLADES
One of the main reasons for Sheffield United’s excellent start to the season has been the form of striker Billy Sharp. 4 goals in 6 games is impressive in anyone’s book….but when you consider he is currently averaging a 70% rate of shots on target to shots taken, its no surprise he is currently one of the leagues hottest strikers around. He has also notched an assist to his name, meaning he has been involved in 5 of the 7 goals that United have scored so far. Cant ask for much more than that!
SUNDERLAND DEFENSIVE WOES CONTINUE
Sunderland have not yet kept a clean sheet this season – one of only two teams (Burton Albion the other) who have conceded in every game so far. 10 goals have been shipped so far at an average of nearly two per game, and is the primary reason the Black Cats are floundering in 20th place in the division. On Saturday they lost their fourth consecutive game as they lost 1-2 to Sheffield United. Next up is, what you feel, a must win game against the enigmatic Nottingham Forest, who are dropping like a stone after a very good start. But they have been hot in front of goal themselves so far….it could yet get worse for Sunderland fans before it gets better.
