Despite captaining Manchester United against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League, Ashley Young hasn’t been offered a new contract with the club.
Young’s contract will expire at the end of the season. Manchester United have been slow to offer him a new deal, but it is thought he will see a new contract offered soon. Young, now 32, has played in three Premier League matches this season. He recorded an assist in Manchester United’s 4-0 thumping of Crystal Palace as he played all 90 minutes at the weekend.
Young has put in several sterling performances for the Red Devils this term, and his play has been praised by Jose Mourinho. Currently on £110,000-per-week, the club may look to reduce his wages, if they are to retain his services.
Daley Blind on the way out?
Full-back Daley Blind will also see his contract expire at the end of the season. However, it appears the team have an option for one more year. Blind is on just £75,000-per-week. However, Manchester United have a number of options at full-back. These options could make him expendable. Like Young, it is believed Blind will be back at Old Trafford next term. He has collected two assists in seven games in all competitions.
Manchester United dilemma
Manchester United have several players out of contract at the end of the season. Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Michael Carrick all join Young and Blind on the list of soon to be expiring contracts. The club could see several players leave at the end of 2018. Manchester United have been slow to offer deals to each player, and could be waiting for the season to play out before new deals are offered.
