Another round of Premier League games are upon us, and even at this early stage of the season, several clubs, and their Managers/players, are already feeling the heat and under pressure to get results for one reason or another. But, as we saw last weekend with Crystal Palace beating Chelsea and Liverpool holding Manchester United (!), there are still room for shock results that leave us all scratching our heads and throwing our coupons at the cat…..here, we look at where the potential banana skins are this weekend :
Chelsea v Watford
Under normal circumstances this would seem a fairly straight forward home win for the Blues – but they do not seem like a team with any kind of fluency or harmony currently, and last weeks loss to Crystal Palace made it two league losses on the bounce for Chelsea and their third of the season already. Watford have only lost once all season and are proving to be tougher nuts to crack than expected pre season. We can see the Hornets piling on the misery at Stamford Bridge here…maybe not doing enough to take all three points away with them, but a draw would be more than respectable and almost equally as damaging to the Blues.
Score Prediction : Chelsea 2-2 Watford
Newcastle v Crystal Palace
Despite their abysmal start to the Premier League season, we have always felt that Palace weren’t really ever that bad and just needed to kick start their engine to get them firing again. This happened last weekend, albeit still a shock, but we feel they can follow up on that with a result at Newcastle, who have had a fine start to the season but can see a lean period upcoming, points wise, that may just restore a bit more normality to their league position. We can see Palace grabbing three points here which may well be enough to see them, amazingly enough, off bottom spot by 5pm Saturday.
Score Prediction : Newcastle 1-2 Crystal Palace
Manchester City v Burnley
When you’re facing a team who have scored 24 goals in their last five Premier League games, its hard to imagine anything less than a spanking for naughty Burnley, who are the next in the City firing line. But the Clarets are a well drilled and underrated unit, who will stick to a rigid game plan and are more than capable of not just frustrating City, but maybe even nicking a goal. When you have played four away games at Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs and Everton and come away with 2 wins and 2 draws and limited those teams to, on average, a goal each, then you have to respect Burnley and start to believe. We do….and whilst we may get mugged right off here and watch City ruck up the goals again, we are brave enough to suggest that Burnley can do a number on them and come away with a point.
