Stoke City fans have turned against Mark Hughes. Supporters were left demoralised by Stoke’s 2-1 loss to Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.
Hughes has been under incredible pressure this season, and received a backlash from fans following the team’s 7-2 loss to Manchester City a week ago. The team’s loss to Bournemouth on Saturday only added to the pressure. The players have also seemingly turned against Hughes, and put in a poor showing against Bournemouth.
It must be said, Stoke did play slightly better in the second half of the match, before ultimately losing 2-1.
What’s wrong with Mark Hughes?
Hughes has been in charge since 2013. The team finished ninth three years running before a 13th place finish last term. Hughes has failed to improve the side this term despite making several additions to the club in the offseason. Currently, the Potters sit 17th in the Premier League, and some have claimed Hughes has lost the locker room.
Ahead of Stoke’s match against Bournemouth, the manager stated clubs sack managers far to easily.
“Sometimes when clubs have new ownerships they can maybe be a little bit more emotional,” Hughes said.
“People can make mistakes and press buttons to get rid of good people who have proved themselves.
“They bow to the immediate thinking rather than actually looking at the quality of their people and backing them.
“We have people here that have been in game for a long time
“They understand football isn’t a straight line in terms of success and failure – there’s ups and downs, peaks and troughs, you have to navigate your way through those.”
Manager sack race
Hughes started Saturday at 20/1 to be the next manager sacked, according Bet Victor. Those odds were slashed following the match to 12/1.
