Harry Kane will miss Tottenham’s trip to Old Trafford on Saturday. The in-form striker suffered an injury to his hamstring in last weekend’s win over Liverpool, and is still not up to 100%.
What’s the problem with Harry Kane?
Although it was listed as a minor hamstring strain, Kane has not been passed fit for Saturday’s game. Kane has struggled through training this week and is not up to the physical demand of playing the Red Devils in the weekend’s biggest clash.
“For tomorrow, we cannot take a risk,” manager Mauricio Pochettino said.
“It’s a minor injury, very small, but we cannot take a risk. We’ll see after for Wednesday versus Real Madrid. Tomorrow [Saturday] it’s impossible.
“Yes [it is a blow], you always want all the players available. It’s a problem. To play more or play less, we want them available to play. We always believe in the collective, the squad. During the season, problems happen and you must trust all the players, all the squad.
“I told the players they are not machines and it’s so difficult to cope with international duty and to then play every three days. It’s lucky it’s not a big problem but he’s not going to play tomorrow.
“It makes no sense to take a risk when the problem is small and we can fix it in a few days probably.”
Can Spurs win without Harry Kane?
Based on the form of both sides, Spurs can still win Saturday’s fixture. However, the loss of Kane will make it difficult for the team to gain all three points. The striker has tallied 13 goals in 12 appearances.
Manchester United are coming off of their first loss of the season. The team lost 2-1 to Huddersfield in their last Premier League game.
Pochettino had denied Kane was suffering a new injury earlier in the week. However, Pochettino’s hopes of Kane playing were dashed with Friday’s announcement.
