Reece Oxford returns to West Ham for second half of the Premier League season

Reece Oxford has returned to West Ham for the second half of the Premier League season. The teenage defender spent the first half of 2017-18 with Bundesliga side Borussia Monchenglandbach. He impressed greatly during his time with the German team, and Borussia are attempting to work out a permanent transfer for Oxford’s signature.

The 19-year-old centre-back only appeared in three Bundesliga games and one German Cup tie. Oxford only recently cracked Borussia’s starting XI, and he is highly thought of by the club.

Oxford was initially set to be with the German team until the summer. However, West Ham ended the loan due to their need for fresh defensive players. The Hammers are fighting relegation and desperately need a deeper squad to combat the drop. Although it is believed manager David Moyes wants veteran players to fight against the drop.

Oxford has also drawn interest from German team RB Leipzig. The energy drink owned team are fifth in the Bundesliga currently. Meanwhile, Borussia sit in sixth as the league is in the winter break.

After being recalled to West Ham, Oxford reportedly spoke with Moyes. During the talks, Oxford informed his manager he wanted to return to Borussia and continue playing his football with the Foals until the summer.

Borussia are hoping to seal Oxford’s signature permanently with a £15 million transfer. The teenage defender has shown great promise, and West Ham may attempt to sell Oxford for more. With the recent sale of Virgil van Dijk by Southampton, West Ham may believe they can get more for the teen.

Fantasy impact

Being that Reece Oxford would play sparingly with West Ham, he most likely won’t have much of an impact when it comes to FPL. West Ham are struggling to prevent relegation, and have improved marginally under Moyes. Oxford could help keep the odd clean sheet, but adding a West Ham defender may not be the best FPL move by managers.
