Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez has put the problems of a failed move to Manchester City behind him. The Algerian international now wants to get his head down and perform well for the Foxes in the final months of the season. Leicester are mid-table in the Premier League and have a quarterfinal FA Cup date against Chelsea looming on March 18th. Just weeks after a Mahrez cull by Fantasy Premier League managers, it is being asked whether a Mahrez improved attitude will help in FPL points performance?
Riyad Mahrez improved attitude
Mahrez is coming off of his best FPL points total since gameweek 24. The winger tallied 10 points in Leicester’s draw against Bournemouth, as he notched the game tying goal. Mahrez was a player FPL managers had transferred out of their teams when his attitude problems started. But now the player has settled down and a great finish to the season may be on the cards.
Mahrez’s failed transfer to Manchester City in late January caused the player to go AWOL. He didn’t show up for training nor did he appear in two of Leicester’s matches. Manchester City made four bids to pry the winger away from Leicester, but the Foxes were unwilling to let him go for a price deemed unsatisfactory. Mahrez was fined around £200,000 for missing training and matches.
This week, a post on Mahrez’s Facebook page stated he would retire from football. However, Mahrez has claimed that his account was hacked. The player now wants to finish the season strongly before pursing yet another transfer away from Leicester in the summer.
The winger has already topped his 2016-17 FPL points total. This season has seen Mahrez tally 150 points already, 30 more than all of last term. He is still off the pace of his unbelievable 2015-16 season in which Mahrez scored 240 FPL points. It was the same season Leicester defied the odds and won the Premier League title.
Leicester have a fantastic run of matches upcoming. All of which could see the team go undefeated, and Mahrez rack up points. The team must still play Tottenham and Arsenal. The match against Spurs will come on the final day of the season, while the date with Arsenal has not be confirmed.
Mahrez could be a great option for this weekend’s FPL fixtures. At only £8.7, he is nicely priced and has a lot of potential to score points. Mahrez improved attitude could be the difference between FPL managers winning their leagues and just missing out.
