Liverpool’s Emre Can has announced he will make his final decision about signing a new Liverpool contract after the season finishes. The central midfielder is out of contract in the summer and Can has not yet agreed terms on a new deal. It is believed he will move to another club and reject a new Liverpool contract offer.
Is Emre Can to leave Liverpool?
The German international will be a free agent in June and there is a chance he could wait until after the World Cup to decide his future. Juventus have been monitoring Can’s current contract situation and could sign Can on a free transfer in the summer. In 2017, there were rumours also linking Manchester United to Can. However, those whispers have disappeared in recent months.
Can is just 24-years old and his ability to play as a defensive midfielder or in a more advanced role has piqued the interest of a number of clubs. Can has started 24 Premier League games for Liverpool, scoring three goals, assisting four and registering an 85.5% pass success rate. Can also averages 2.6 tackles per match.
Since arriving from Germany’s Bayer Leverkusen in 2014, Can has been ever present in Liverpool’s Premier League starting XI. However, this term has seen him register his best year in stats overall.
Can arrived at Liverpool from Bayer for £10.8 million. The team snatched him up just one season after Bayer signed him from Bayern Munich. Although Can only played four matches with Bayern Munich, he was still a part of the club’s 2012-13 quadruple triumph: Bundesliga title, German Cup, Champions League and German Super Cup.
Where will Emre Can play?
Can recently spoke to Süddeutsche Zeitung about his future and a possible return to Germany after the current season.
“Sure, the Bundesliga would interest me, why not? Although I must say honestly that the level has waned in recent years,” Can said.
“The Premier League has the power to spend more money on players than the Bundesliga. This is very, very important for players.
“I have the self-confidence to say that my qualities are sufficient to play in a very big club next season.”
Can also told the news outlet he wants to be a part of a team that has the chance to win a league title.
“That’s what every footballer dreams of because that’s the reward for the work,” Can said.
“I’m doing great in England. The Spanish league is also attractive. The same applies to Germany, where tactics are concerned, and the Italian club football, which has recently caught up.
“Incidentally, the same applies to France, this league has now established itself as one of the best in Europe. Therefore, I do not want to exclude anything because I do not know what I will do from the summer.”
Does Liverpool need Emre Can or will the Reds be better off with Naby Keita playing in his role?
