Arsenal have officially announced Arsene Wenger’s replacement as former Paris Saint-Germain coach Unai Emery. The Spaniard has been appointed to drive the Gunners into the future following the departure of Arsene Wenger.
Who is Unai Emery?
Emery is coming off of a French league treble with PSG. Winning trophies isn’t anything new for the former Sevilla coach. Emery won three Europa League titles with Sevilla between 2013 and 2016.
The manager has also coached at Valencia and Spartak Moscow. Both jobs took place before being appointed Sevilla coach.
His most recent role as PSG coach was perhaps his most difficult to date. The two sides decided to mutually end their relationship. It is believed PSG’s owners were not happy with the club’s inability to get past the Champions League quarterfinal stage after the world-record signing of Neymar.

Following his appointment, Emery spoke to the media about his new position at the Emirates.
“I’m very excited to be given the responsibility to start this important new chapter in Arsenal’s history,” Emery said.
“I am thrilled to be joining one of the great clubs in the game. Arsenal is known and loved throughout the world for its style of play, its commitment to young players, the fantastic stadium, the way the club is run.
“I’m excited about what we can do together and I look forward to giving everyone who loves Arsenal some special moments and memories.”
Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis also spoke to the media about Emery’s appointment and the club’s excitement for the future.
“Unai has an outstanding track record of success throughout his career, has developed some of the best young talent in Europe and plays an exciting, progressive style of football that fits Arsenal perfectly,” Gazidis stated.
“His hard-working and passionate approach and his sense of values on and off the pitch make him the ideal person to take us forward.”
