England national team: Dele Alli a doubt for Panama match at World Cup

England national team midfielder Dele Alli is a doubt for the team’s Group G match against Panama on Sunday. The Tottenham player was visibly slowed during England’s 2-1 win over Tunisia on Monday evening.

The England national team player is being monitored by the team’s coaching staff. Although Gareth Southgate and his staff are desperate to have Alli in the team, he could be limited to a substitute appearance. Alli was replaced after 80 minutes against Tunisia.

Alli was active in the opening 20 minutes of England’s match. However, the player seemed to slow down as the game went on. There was much speculation that during the match from the BBC’s commentating team that Alli was injured for most of the match before he was finally removed.

The Tottenham player spoke to the press following the match and confirmed it is his quad that is injured.

“Hopefully I am OK. It’s my quad,” Alli said.

England national team coach Gareth Southgate also weighed-in on Alli’s injury.

“We had to keep monitoring Dele,” Southgate said.

“He was feeling a little bit of an issue just before half-time, but he felt he could carry on and I thought the runs that he was making and the way he was pressing the ball was still causing a problem.”
