Chelsea clash with Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon. The Blues will be without key midfielder Cesc Fabregas against the Cherries. The 31-year-old has missed Chelsea’s three Premier League fixtures and it is unknown when he will be back in the Chelsea starting XI.
Chelsea injury news: Blues missing key midfielder ahead of clash with Bournemouth
Fabregas was expected to depart the Blues during the summer transfer window. The Spanish midfielder had been accused of digressing after his goals and assists statistics declined last term.
The key midfielder suffered a leg injury in Chelsea’s preseason match against Arsenal. Fabregas missed out on Chelsea’s training sessions this week, and according to sources still needs time to recover.
Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has called Fabregas’ injury an ‘unusual injury’. According to reports on Friday, Fabregas is finding it difficult to run due to what has been described as an injury just below the knee.
“Cesc is still out,” Sarri explained in his pre-match press conference.
“He is working in water. We hope that next week he will be able to work on the pitch.
“I am sure the injury is not serious, but he has pain in the knee.
“The pain is still there so for him it is impossible to run on the pitch, only in water.”
Despite the key midfielder missing all three of Chelsea’s opening fixtures, the Blues have adapted well to life without him.
Chelsea injuries and suspensions
No other Chelsea first-team players are injured or suspended for the weekend. Sarri will have all other players available for selection against the Cherries.
While the Blues have no other injury worries than Fabregas, news has been reported that midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek may be sent out on loan. Sarri has claimed Loftus-Cheek’s tactical skills are not up to par. The buying transfer window closes for many European leagues on Friday, August 31.
