James Maddison helped Leicester City supporters forget about the offseason exit of Riyad Mahrez. The summer signing from Norwich City tallied three goals in six games and show there is life after Mahrez. Yet, since his goal against Huddersfield in gameweek 6, Maddison has struggled in front of goal. He has registered a mere assist in the five games he has played since that last goal.
Leicester have been hot and cold since Maddison last registered an assist. He set up Harry Maguire’s 73rd-minute goal against the Magpies. Of course, Leicester have had issues off the pitch that goes without saying, but Maddison’s influence on Leicester’s games has waned since earlier this term.
The Foxes have won just once in their last five matches. The win came against Cardiff City. Maddison has failed to score more than three points in Fantasy Premier League in the last four gameweeks. He did miss Leicester’s most recent Premier League match against Burnley, which resulted in a nil-nil draw.
Maddison is struggling with a knee injury and is not guaranteed to be fit for the weekend against Brighton. The midfielder costs just £6.8 million in FPL. His fantasy selection numbers have dropped massively in recent gameweeks. Gameweek 10 saw over 1.08 million managers select Maddison. Yet, just one gameweek later he was picked by just a little more than 975,000 managers.
Should you select James Maddison for gameweek 13?
Even if Maddison is fit, he isn’t worth selecting due to form, or is he? Leicester play Brighton in gameweek 13. Brighton have conceded 18 goals this term. The Seagulls do play well at home having taken 10 of 15 points. They have conceded just 6 times at the AMEX Stadium.
Leicester, on the other hand, have played decently away from home. The Foxes have tallied nine of 18 points on the road, and their game against Brighton will be another chance to get away from problems at home.
Maddison may be fit for gameweek 13, but FPL managers have a big decision. His form doesn’t warrant a place in the side, but playing against Brighton might mean FPL managers take a chance.
