Manchester City are expected to be without striker Sergio Aguero for tonight’s Premier League match with Watford. The Cityzens took the train from Manchester to London for the clash and the Manchester Evening News reported that Aguero was not in the team’s travelling squad.
Sergio Aguero was left out of Manchester City’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth on Saturday. According to manager Pep Guardiola, Aguero could have “missed four or five weeks due to injury”, if he had played versus Bournemouth.
Manchester City are facing a difficult set of upcoming fixtures and injuries are piling up. Gabriel Jesus missed the Cityzens’ game against Lyon in the Champions League a week ago. Meanwhile, Kevin De Bruyne continues to struggle with a knee injury. It has been announced that De Bruyne missed his target return date against Bournemouth.
“I don’t know. We have training at the moment. Kevin is not ready but the other two I don’t know,” Guardiola said on Monday.
Midfielder Oleksandr Zinchenko is also expected to miss tonight’s game against Watford. He suffered an accidental elbow from teammate Fernandinho at the weekend. It is suspected Zinchenko’s nose was broken in the collision.
Manchester City supporters have been expressing their interest in several fringe players receiving places in the team’s starting XI against Watford. With matches piling up, supporters are hoping to see the likes of Phil Foden receive more playing time.
Manchester City face Chelsea at the weekend at Stamford Bridge. Guardiola’s decision to sit Aguero out for a second straight match could allow the Argentine to play on Saturday.
Guardiola’s team is just two points ahead of Liverpool. The two clubs have several big games coming up this month before they meet at the Etihad on January 3rd.
Jesus will most likely play in place of the injured Sergio Aguero. Despite being taken off on 77 minutes against Bournemouth, Jesus has tallied five goals in 17 games. His substitution against the Cherries was most likely to keep him fresh with Aguero facing injury issues.
