Wolverhampton Wanderers’ midfielder Diogo Jota shined in gameweek 23 with a 16 point Fantasy Premier League performance. Jota struck the net three times for Wolves including the game-winner in the third minute of second-half stoppage against Leicester City.
Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Diogo Jota shines in gameweek 23
Jota has been disappointing in FPL this term notching just 65 points in 1,178 total Premier League minutes. The midfielder has tallied five goals and three assists.
However, Saturday’s game against Leicester was just the second time this term that Jota scored double-digit points. His last gameweek with 10 or more FPL points came in gameweek 16 against Newcastle.
Jota started the season well with a five-point performance against Everton. He tallied an assist in 90-minutes of action in gameweek 1. Yet, Jota hasn’t had the consistency needed to be a top FPL player.
The Portuguese player is currently sixth in Wolves’ players in FPL points. He is currently 36 points off of team leader Raul Jimenez.
Wolves’ win was their first in three games. Nuno Espirito Santo’s team moved up to eighth place with the win. Wolves overtook Leicester in the table thanks to Jota’s play.
Who is Diogo Jota?
Jota joined Wolverhampton in 2017 from Atletico Madrid on loan and the midfielder helped the club win the Championship last term. After a brilliant first half of the Championship season, Jota signed a permanent deal at Molineaux.
Jota’s hat-trick against Leicester made him just the second Portuguese player to achieve the three-goal feat. Cristiano Ronaldo was the first player to score a hat-trick in the top-flight.
Wolves haven’t had a player score a hat-trick in the English top-flight since 1977. The last time a player scored three goals for Wolverhampton in the top-flight was also against Leicester when John Richards did it.
The Portuguese player scored 17 goals in the Championship a season ago, but he has tallied just five since the club achieved promotion.
