Chelsea host Tottenham on Wednesday night as the Blues continue to go through fallout following the Carabao Cup Final. Meanwhile, Tottenham are still experiencing injuries to key players. Spurs are third in the Premier League table and a full 10 points ahead of Chelsea. The Blues are three points back of Arsenal and the final Champions League place. They must defeat Spurs to keep pace.
Chelsea vs. Tottenham: Spurs still missing key players due to injury
Tottenham are coming off of a shock 2-1 loss to Burnley at the weekend. Harry Kane has returned to the Tottenham team, but they are still missing key players for the trip to Stamford Bridge.
Dele Alli is still out for Tottenham with an injury. He has missed 17 games this season for Tottenham. Alli is still rehabbing a hamstring injury but is doing on-field training as he gets back into the fold.
Tottenham have no need to rush Alli back into the squad. The club is three goals up in the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund.
Mauricio Pochettino will want the midfielder back for the next round of the tournament and will slowly bring Alli back into the side.
Fellow midfielder Eric Dier is also out of action. Dier is out of the team due to tonsilitis. He previously had his appendix removed earlier this season and missed time.
Chelsea vs. Tottenham: What will Chelsea be like now?
After four consecutive cup games, Chelsea return to Premier League play. How the Blues react to their loss and Kepa’s defiance of manager Maurizio Sarri is anyone’s guess going into the fixture.
Sarri does have a full squad to choose from, but he could be swayed to sit Kepa due to the events at Wembley last Sunday.
One player who may not feature is defender Marcos Alonso. The Spaniard has recently fallen down the pecking order to Emerson Palmieri.
Spurs won at Stamford Bridge last season, 3-1, thanks to a goal from Christian Eriksen and two from Alli.
