Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling have tallied 79% of Manchester City’s total scoring.
Manchester City head into the weekend with an away fixture at Norwich City. The Cityzens have collected 10 points from 12 with their only blemish coming against Tottenham Hotspur courtesy of a controversial VAR call. Pep Guardiola’s team could go top of the table depending on Liverpool’s result against Newcastle United at Anfield.
Manchester City’s attack has been as sharp and deadly as ever in the early stages of the season. Forwards Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling have been fantastic with the pair combining for 11 goals. An argument can be made, however, that Manchester City have so far been too reliant on Aguero and Sterling. The team has scored 14 total Premier League goals with the duo tallying 79% of all scoring.
The impact of Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling
Aguero and Sterling are tasked with getting Manchester City’s goals. However, Manchester City’s scoring hasn’t been balanced in the squad after four matches. Bernardo Silva, Gabriel Jesus, and Kevin De Bruyne have each tallied a single goal.
As the season wears on, the rest of the squad will pitch in with more goals despite Aguero and Sterling dominating in the final third currently. It will balance out the scoring.
Aguero is exceeding his expected goals (xG) stats after four matches. The Argentine’s six goals are 2.89 goals more than his xG figure. Even his one assist is ahead of the expected assists (xA) ratio of 0.66. Aguero’s best season in front of goal for Manchester City came in 2014-15 when he scored 26 goals and tallied eight assists in 33 Premier League matches.
Sterling is also exceeding his xG. The forward has scored 1.90 goals more than his xG figure. However, his assists are below his xA figure. Sterling’s best Premier League season in front of goal came in 2017-18 when he scored 18 times in 33 matches.
Will Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling cool off?
Aguero and Sterling are red-hot for Manchester City but all signs point to the duo cooling off. Manchester City will begin their Champion League group stage campaign in a week’s time against Shakhtar Donetsk. The added matches will take their toll on Manchester City and the rest of the squad should step up to begin scoring goals.
It will be difficult for both Aguero and Sterling to maintain their current form and proficiency in front of goal. Both have played a lot of football in the last 12 months and injuries are bound to occur.
Aguero has tallied 40 Fantasy Premier League points after four gameweeks. He averages a brilliant 10.0 FPL points per gameweek. He will cost FPL owners £12.1 million. Sterling has scored 37 FPL points. The forward disappointing scored just three points in gameweek 4.
He could already be cooling off for the Cityzens. It was the first gameweek in which he didn’t score a goal. Sterling will cost managers £12.3m.
Manchester City should have no issue dominating their fixtures until 9 November they visit Anfield. FPL managers should be able to rack up the points with Aguero and Sterling in their sides.
