Southampton forward Danny Ings has had a rebirth this season under manager Ralph Hassenhuttl. Ings has bagged a fantastic 13 goals in 21 Premier League matches.
Ings is having his best Premier League season ever. His previous best in front of goal came as a Burnley player in 2014-15 when he scored 11 times. Ings had bagged 21 league goals the season prior with Burnley in the EFL Championship, but it wasn’t until the next season that he made his mark on the top flight.
Ings thriving in Fantasy Premier League
The Southampton forward has tallied 118 Fantasy Premier League goals. Ings is seventh in FPL in total points after 21 rounds. He is just 26 points off of FPL points leader Jamie Vardy.
Ings costs £6.7 million heading into gameweek 22. For a striker who has scored nine points in each of his last two gameweeks, Ings is a cheap option at forward. The Southampton forward has bagged four goals in four games helping him crush his FPL points totals from the last four seasons.
Southampton head to the King Power Stadium on Saturday to play Leicester City. Anyone expecting the Saints to fall by a massive scoreline as they did earlier this season should be surprised by watch should be a close match.
Can Ings lead Southampton to victory on Saturday?
Leicester City thumped Southampton 9-0 earlier this season but since November, Southampton have been one of the Premier League’s most in-form team. Southampton are unbeaten in their last four league matches with three of those games ending in wins.
Leicester City are winless in three of five Premier League games, although they have won back to back fixtures. The Foxes defence has begun to concede goals, something they didn’t do earlier this term. Leicester City have conceded 10 goals in their last six games and are coming off of a Carabao Cup semifinal first-leg draw with Aston Villa. It was a game in which Brendan Rodgers played a strong side and still needed a come from behind goal to get a draw.
Ings can certainly get through Leicester City’s defence and get goals on Saturday. Not only is he a well-priced option for the weekend, but Southampton have a run of winnable matches upcoming. They will face off with Crystal Palace, Burnley, and Aston Villa in the next four weeks. Although a game against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liverpool are mixed in, Ings is good value to continue his goalscoring form.
For a mere £6.7m, the Southampton forward could be the best goalscorer in FPL for gameweek 22.
