5 in-form defenders for gameweek 10
Gameweek 9 featured six clean sheets and 19 goals scored over the weekend. It was a very defensive week in the Premier League, but will gameweek 10 be the same?
Tottenham continued their strong defensive run this term as Spurs have conceded a mere four goals. Meanwhile, Hull City have given up the most goals this season with 22. That is 2.4 goals conceded per game.
Will any Tigers’ defender make the FantasySports.co.uk top 5 defenders list this week? Let’s look and see who should get into your Fantasy Premier League team.
Charlie Daniels – Bournemouth
Games: 9; Goals: 1; Assists: 1; Total FPL points: 38
Charlie Daniels picked up six points in gameweek 9 as his Bournemouth drew nil-nil with Tottenham. Daniels has completed 90 minutes in each of Bournemouth’s nine matches.
Bournemouth have Middlesbrough up next. The Riverside team have only scored seven goals this term, second fewest in the Premier League. They are also coming off a nil-nil draw.
Bournemouth’s defence should have another solid outing as the team have given up just three goals in their last four matches.
Gary Cahill – Chelsea
Games: 9; Goals: 1; Clean sheets: 4; Total FPL points: 38
Gary Cahill had his best weekly point’s total last weekend when he tallied 14 against Manchester United.
Chelsea’s next match will see them take on a very tricky Southampton. However, Chelsea’s defence has kept back-to-back clean sheets. Can they do it again?
Cahill isn’t necessarily cheap at £5.9 million, but his form is outstanding going into gameweek 10.
Laurent Koscienly – Arsenal
Games: 8; Goals: 2; Clean sheets: 4; Total FPL points: 51
Laurent Koscielny is still top of the defender point’s chart. The Frenchman will cost your Fantasy Premier League team £6.4m, but his return of eight points last week was solid for the Gunners
Arsenal will play Sunderland in gameweek 10, a team that has scored the fewest goals in the Premier League this season.
Sunderland have not won in their last six against Arsenal and have scored just three times. Another Arsenal clean sheet looks likely.
Kyle Naughton – Swansea
Games: 9; Clean sheets: 2; Total FPL points: 22 points
Kyle Naughton is a bargain buy this week at £4.5m. Last week, the full-back tallied his highest weekly total with nine points. Although he didn’t score as highly in the prior weeks, Naughton is worth a shot at the price. Perhaps Bob Bradley has Swansea’s back line under control.
Swansea will take on Stoke City in their next encounter. Stoke have been much improved as of late. However, Swansea’s defence looked good in the team’s gameweek 9 draw with Watford.
Can they do it on a cold and rainy night in Stoke? There’s a good chance.
Christian Fuchs – Leicester City
Games: 9; Goals: 1; Assists: 1; Total FPL points 35
Christian Fuchs had his second best week in Fantasy Premier League in gameweek 9 with eight points.
Leicester’s form has been up and down this season. However, last week Fuchs was excellent in Leicester’s win over Crystal Palace.
This week the Foxes take on Tottenham, who have only scored once in their last three matches. Fuch’s Foxes could get another clean sheet and you Fantasy Premier League team some major points.
Bonus Goalkeeper
Victor Valdes – Middlesbrough
Games: 7; Clean sheets: 1; Total FPL points: 21
Victor Valdes made six saves in Middlesbrough’s nil-nil draw with Arsenal last week. Valdes was voted into WhoScored.com’s team of the week for his excellent play and top goalkeeper ranking. Valdes’ Middlesbrough take on Bournemouth in gameweek 10.
Valdes is good value for this week, especially due to his good form. At only £4.5m, Valdes is a good shout for you Fantasy Premier League side.
