Gameweek 22 sees Manchester City host Tottenham in the marquee match up. With City in turmoil and Tottenham making a charge on top spot, who gets into our gameweek 22 defenders list?
Marcos Alonso – Chelsea
Games: 19; Clean sheets: 11; Total FPL points: 104
Marcos Alonso has risen up the defenders’ points list to take top spot going into gameweek 22. The defender had a great day at the office against Leicester last weekend as he scored twice in a 21 point performance.
Chelsea play Hull and Alonso is a brilliant draft into your gameweek 22 defenders. Be warned, Liverpool and Arsenal are up afterwards and Chelsea’s title credentials will be challenged.
Laurent Koscielny – Arsenal
Games: 20; Clean sheets: 7; Total FPL points: 87
Laurent Koscielny returns to our defenders’ list this week after a solid nine point performance against Swansea.
The Gunners face Burnley, Watford and Hull in three of their next four, which makes Koscielny a perfect gameweek 22 defenders choice.
Kyle Walker – Tottenham
Games: 20; Clean sheets: 9; Total FPL points: 97
Kyle Walker’s 11 point haul gets him into our gameweek 22 defenders list. Sure, Spurs play Manchester City away at the weekend, but after City’s 4-0 humiliation at the hands of Everton, Walker has to get into our side.
Spurs have the best defence in the Premier League and have conceded a mere 14 goals. When these sides met in gameweek 6, Walker tallied six points in Spurs’ 2-0 win.
Ashley Williams – Everton
Games: 20; Clean sheets: 6; Total FPL points: 67
Want a cheeky Fantasy Premier League gameweek 22 defenders steal? Ashley Williams is your man.
The centre-back has tallied six points in each of his last two matches, sealing back-to-back clean sheets. At only £5.0 million, Williams is a perfect pick.
Everton’s fixture list is very favourable over the next five games: Crystal Palace, Stoke, Bournemouth, Middlesbrough and Sunderland are all to come.
Cesar Azpilicueta – Chelsea
Games: 21; Clean sheets: 12; Total FPL points: 103
As we have said for some time now, Cesar Azpilicueta has been getting into our side week in, week out. Nothing changes as the defender makes our gameweek 22 defenders list.
Currently second in total defender points, Azpilicueta returned last weekend with a six point total. It was his best performance since gameweek 18 and we are expecting more from the Spaniard to come.
Bonus goalkeeper
Petr Cech – Arsenal
Games: 21; Clean sheets: 7; Total FPL points: 72
Sure, Burnley’s Tom Heaton had a better points total last weekend, but we are confident Petr Cech will win you more points in the weeks to come.
For one, he has a much better team in front of him to take the pressure off the Gunners’ goal. Secondly, Arsenal take on poor teams in winnable fixtures over the next three out of four games.
Arsenal should post at least two clean sheets in those four fixtures, and Cech should continue his steady points totals.
