WSOP: The richest event in sports history starts on May 30th

The 48th annual World Series of Poker is set to start in Las Vegas on May 30th. The series will run for 49 days and offer 74 WSOP gold bracelet events in a wide range of poker formats.

The WSOP Main Event will start on July 8th and we would expect to see close to 7,000 players put up the $10,000 entry fee, hoping to win a share of the richest prize pool in sport.

The World Series of Poker commented: “The something-for-everyone schedule includes gold bracelets, satellites, cash games and deep stack tournaments running for 49 consecutive days with the Main Event reaching its final nine players in July 17th, 2017. Nearly 500 poker table will be set up across more than 100,000 square-feet of ballroom space to accommodate the players from around the world who attend poker’s annual pilgrimage.”

ESPN will offer coverage of the Main Event from day 1, while Poker Central will offer live digital access through much of the summer though their newly launched PokerGo service. The major change in this years’ WSOP will see the Main Event playing to a finish in July. Previous WSOP’s have seen the final table break until November for TV purposes. This change has been universally welcomed by the poker community and should ensure a more compelling finish to this year’s series.

FantasySports.co.uk looks forward to reporting progress on some of the UK’s brightest poker talent, including Sam Trickett, Chris Moorman, Charlie Carrel, Stephen Chidwick, Max Silver, Patrick Leonard, Simon Deadman and William Kassouf, who took the Main Event by storm last year.
