With Barcelona applying the pressure in landing Phillipe Coutinho, one potential replacement for him has said a definitive ‘No’ to a move to Anfield.
Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic has been linked with a move to Liverpool should they lose their star man Coutinho to the Spanish giants – which seems very likely, despite Liverpool’s consistent approach that Coutinho is going nowhere.
Pulisic, just 18, has made a huge impact with Dortmund and has worked with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp before. He is already a full American international, making his debut in 2016 and becoming in the process to be the youngest ever player to play for the USA national team.
Very much in the Coutinho mould, Pulisic is a small, speedy and versatile attacking midfielder, organising attacks with a knack for scoring himself. It is very easy to see why Klopp would be interested in him as a replacement for Coutinho.
However, in a recent interview with German media outlet SPORTBILD, Pulisic made no secret of where he sees his immediate future :
‘I am very happy in Dortmund,’…….‘Yes, I read them [Liverpool rumours] too. What more can I say? I concentrate fully on the start of the season’
Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur had earlier in the summer been rumoured to be planning a bid for Pulisic but, as with every player linked with Spurs seemingly, nothing came of it.
The drama surrounding Coutinho looks set to drag on – but should it happen, Reds fans will not be looking forward to seeing this exciting young prospect at Anfield anytime soon.
