The English Premier League returns on Saturday with Swansea hosting Manchester United in the opening match of the round. There is just a little bit of time to make that last minute Fantasy Premier League transfer for week 2, and there are plenty of players and match ups you should avoid this week.
Which players stock has risen and which has gone down?
Stock Up
Granit Xhaka had a brilliant week 1 performance as he notched 10 points in a two assist game. Arsenal play Stoke in week 2, and Arsenal should play better defensively than against Leicester in week 1. Xhaka’s ability to play box-to-box and pick out a pass will benefit managers who make him a Fantasy Premier League transfer for week 2.
Need a forward? Jamie Vardy can fit into your squad for a reasonable £8.6. His two goal performance against Arsenal was a bit unexpected, but it is something Vardy needs to do more of this season to finish in the top half of the table. Brighton are up next, but Leicester do face Manchester United and Chelsea in subsequent weeks.
If you need a bargain defender for week 2, West Brom’s Ahmed El-Sayed Hegazi will cost you a mere £4.6. His shock 15 point performance against Bournemouth rewarded managers for his selection as he topped FPL. West Brom have a very favourable fixture list until the end of October, so think about Hegazi as a English Premier League transfer for week 2.
Stock Down
Wilfried Zaha not only had a very poor game against Huddersfield (two points) but he is now injured. Over 300,000 FPL managers sold Zaha during the week, and you should too, if you haven’t already. In fact, get all Crystal Palace players out of your starting XI for the week. The Eagles play Liverpool and manager Frank de Boer, who was sacked by Inter Milan 85 days after being hired last season, is going to struggle in the job.
Jermain Defoe didn’t start last weekend’s match against West Brom, and only scored one point after joining the fray. Defoe was the only bright light in a dark season for Sunderland in 2016-17. Yes, he is playing for a better team this term, but Watford aren’t slouches. The Hornets should be better this week in defence than they were against Liverpool.
Stoke’s defence will be up against a very talented and seemingly underrated Arsenal attack this weekend. Drop any Stoke defenders from your team if you can. Alexandre Lacazette and company should run wild on the Potters despite the game taking place at Stoke. There isn’t much interesting about this Mark Hughes’ side. The once difficult to beat Stoke are now just a spineless play thing for opposing teams. Arsenal should win this and get to Stoke’s defence early and often. Stoke players will offer little value, and managers will benefit from a Fantasy Premier League transfer to replace their Potters in week 2.
