Chelsea player crisis deepens as ANOTHER star could exit club

Fresh off the back that Barcelona could be making a play for Willian, Chelsea fans were handed the unexpected news that Juventus have made an initial approach for England centre half Gary Cahill.

Cahill, 31, joined Chelsea from Bolton Wanderers back in 2011 and has been a consistent part of the Chelsea defence ever since – although his form has been decidedly inconsistent, being prone to costly errors and lapses of judgment, despite having an eye for goal, having scored a more than respectable 25 goals for Chelsea in his career at Stamford Bridge.

But he has done enough over the course of that time to become a regular part of the England squad, and won several honours whilst at Chelsea – he was appointed as club captain this season by manager Antonio Conte.

Juventus are searching for a replacement for Leonardo Bonucci, who earlier this month made the surprising switch to Serie A rivals AC Milan, and have identified Cahill has a possible target.

It is unclear whether, at this stage, Chelsea are interested in a deal for Cahill – his place is not secure despite his club captaincy, and this was further highlighted with an opening day sending off against Burnley which contributed to the 2-3 loss. Without Cahill, Chelsea then looked vastly improved with a back three of Azpilicueta, Christensen and Rudiger, with David Luiz protecting them in a defensive midfield role.

Chelsea are also chasing Southampton’s unsettled centre half Virgil Van Dijk, which could leave them open to considering a deal for their aging and polarising club captain, which would not be wholly unpopular amongst the Stamford Bridge faithful should they open negotiations.

Fans will certainly be worried though that there seems to be more possible outgoings than incoming with their beloved club defending the Premier League title and hoping to mount a serious assault on the Champions League after a highly favourable group draw.
