Although he has often been a source of comedy and frustration to Manchester United supporters, the club are trying to tie down midfielder Marouane Fellaini to a new contract. However, the Belgian has failed to come to terms over a new deal, and is holding out for more money.
Fellaini’s current Manchester United contract expires in July 2018, but Manchester United hope to have him re-signed before that happens. The Belgian arrived at Old Trafford from Everton in 2013 and has gone on to make 139 appearances for the Red Devils; while tallying 17 goals and 10 assists.
Fellaini has started the season well for Manchester United, playing in four of the team’s five Premier League matches. There is growing interest from teams in Italy and Turkey, who could offer the player more money and a longer contract than Manchester United. The 30-year-old is on a salary of £80,000-a-week, which equates to £4.16 million per season.
Fellaini and his representatives have been negotiating with the Red Devils, but so far the two sides have not agreed on money. According to reports, the midfielder feels he should be paid more, and his current form is proof the Red Devils need to dig a little deeper.
According to website Totalsportek, Manchester United have a number of players in the last year of their current contracts. Daley Blind, Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Michael Carrick are all listed as having contracts that will expire in July 2018.
While the team could lose one or two midfielders next summer, the Red Devils are tracking Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The Serbian has turned heads around Europe since breaking into the Lazio side in 2015.
