Chelsea will enter Saturday’s Premier League heavyweight title clash with Manchester City with no new injuries. The Blues put in a brilliant performance against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League Wednesday night, and came away with all three points. The good news is, the Chelsea injury update has no new names to add to the list.
Chelsea injury update
Chelsea will still be without Danny Drinkwater. The defensive midfielder is still battling a calf injury that has kept him from featuring with the team since his move from Leicester. Chelsea will have Pedro on the bench, who, according to manager Antonio Conte, has a minor knock.
Suspensions
David Luiz will miss the fixture thanks to his sending off against Arsenal two weeks ago. Luiz played against Atletico and gave away the penalty that was scored by Antoine Griezman. His performance in the Champions League led Manchester United legend Roy Keane to label Luiz as “lazy”.
Can Chelsea beat Manchester City?
Chelsea will have the benefit of playing at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. In addition, star Eden Hazard has not only returned from injury, but he has hit the ground running. Hazard starred in Chelsea’s win against Atletico, and should be difficult for Manchester City to slow down.
Andreas Christensen is expected to play in place of Luiz. The Dane has played five times this season, but has only started twice. Antonio Rudiger could be preferred as the starting centre-back depending on Conte’s rotation of players.
It is important to note that Chelsea have favoured a 3-5-2 formation when playing against Tottenham and Atletico Madrid this season. In Chelsea’s biggest matches, it appears Conte favours a five man midfield to the 3-4-3 he has used in other matches.
