Tottenham throttled Liverpool 4-1 on Sunday at Wembley. The dominant Spurs team were led once again by Harry Kane, who scored twice for the home side.
Following the match it was feared that Kane had picked up a fresh injury. The striker left the game with three minutes remaining. However, those fears have been massaged by manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Pochettino denies new Harry Kane injury
Pochettino has denied any injury was suffered by the in-form striker. The manager took Kane off as a precautionary move to prevent any injuries from occurring once the match was out of Liverpool’s reach.
“No, no [Kane didn’t picked up an injury]. He was tired at the end. That is normal. A massive effort against Bournemouth, Real Madrid and today. It’s normal he was a little bit tired. It will not be a problem,” Pochettino said at the press conference following the match.
Kane is expected to be rested during Tottenham’s midweek Carabao Cup match. Spurs will take on West Ham on Wednesday night in London.
“Yes, maybe [Kane is rested against West Ham],” Pochettino said. “We have ahead many games, Wednesday then Manchester United at the weekend and Real Madrid. We finish the weekend with Crystal Palace.
“It’s important to know that he played two games for the national team before Bournemouth. It’s been a massive effort from him, but his performance in that way he’s so professional.
“But he’s not a machine and maybe Wednesday to rest.”
Manchester United up next
Tottenham will travel to Old Trafford to play Manchester United next weekend. The two clubs are level on points (20) and both sit in second place. Tottenham are currently five points back of leaders Manchester City.
