According to English media reports, former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is moving to London in February. His house move has led to widespread speculation that he will be taking over for Antonio Conte at Chelsea.
Football pundit Ian McGarry is the man claiming Ancelotti will be the man to takeover the Blues. The Italian had a successful spell at Stamford Bridge previously and is being called back to do it again. Ancelotti’s appointment is being seen as a safe pair of hands to put the team into for next season. Although there is a possibility he could take over this term still.
According to McGarry, Ancelotti has already spoken to Chelsea executives about replacing Conte at Chelsea. The club are just waiting to appoint Ancelotti and could see out the season with Conte before putting their former manager back in charge during the summer break.
“He’ll be waiting to replace Antonio Conte at Chelsea,” McGarry said on the Transfer Window podcast.
“He’s been spoken to by Chelsea with regards to succeeding Conte who everyone at the club believes will not be there beyond the end of this season, and if things go badly in the Champions League knockout stages could even leave before then.
“And Carlo will be in situ waiting to take charge at Chelsea whether that be in mid-season or next summer.
“He (Conte) will definitely be gone by next season, but Ancelotti moving to London is significant because he’s had those talks with Roman Abramovich to replace Conte and change the management style back to one where it’s less abrasive and confrontational.”
Conte’s Chelsea dropped points once more this weekend as the Blues played out a nil-nil draw against Everton. The team face Brighton on Boxing Day before clashing with Stoke City later in the week.
While replacing Conte at Chelsea is on the minds of many around Chelsea, it looks likely the team will be searching for a centre-back in the January transfer window. Chelsea are being linked to Conte’s former player at Juventus Leonardo Bonucci.
