On Thursday, the club announced it would reopen consultations on the new badge. Due to the criticism by fans, Leeds have decided a more traditional badge for the club’s centenary could created.
Leeds United’s managing director Angus Kinnear spoke with BBC Radio Leeds about the fallout of the badge unveiling. He confirmed the club will reopen the consultation process.
“We need to reopen the consultation process,” Kinnear said.
“Because the direction is so distinctive and breaks with a lot of conventions, that consultation process hasn’t gone deep enough.”
Around 51,000 Leeds supporters had signed a petition to get the new team crest removed just hours after it was revealed.
Kinnear also spoke about the “passion” of the Leeds supporters.
“I genuinely feel excited about the passion of Leeds fans. It’s slightly unfortunate it’s been demonstrated in this way but it reinforces what a big fanbase we are,” Kinnear stated.
“Transparency has been at the heart of everything we do. We’re not going to hide. We’re big enough to take the feedback and engage with supporters and they should trust us to do the right thing.”
Leeds United are currently 10th in the Championship. The team is just three points behind sixth place Sheffield United.
