Fulham are now 10 games unbeaten after defeating Aston Villa, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon. The fixture featured the two best teams in the Championship’s form table, and Fulham came out on top thanks to star youngster Ryan Sessegnon‘s second half strike. The win moved Fulham five points ahead of seventh place Preston. Meanwhile, Aston Villa were leapfrogged by Cardiff City, who now takeover second place in the Championship. After the match, Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce praised Fulham and their star teenager Sessegnon.
Fulham’s Sessgnon opened the scoring in the 52nd minute. The 17-year-old notched his 12th goal of the term. However, his goal was outdone by teammate Floyd Ayite, who lob Aston Villa’s Sam Johnstone from long-range.
“Fulham played very well today, especially Sessegnon. I’ve always said they’re a good side, they’ve got some good players. They’re one to beat,” Bruce said.
Wolverhampton Wanderers could be caught
Ahead of Saturday’s clash between the two sides, Bruce had stated Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers could be caught.
“All credit to Wolves because they’ve had an unbelievable season, but they’re still there to be shot at,” the Aston Villa manager stated.
“But mentality doesn’t change. Can we catch Wolves? Can we mount a challenge to them and put them under pressure? People say 11 or 12 points is maybe too much but that’s what we’ve got to try to achieve.
“We play them at home in a few weeks and that’s got to be the challenge to us all. We haven’t got anywhere near them yet but can we do it? There are 15 games to go, still 45 points to play for.”
Wolves are now 13 points ahead of Aston Villa after drawing on Saturday with Preston.
Bruce’s side will battle Preston on Tuesday before travelling to Hillsborough to play Sheffield Wednesday next weekend.
