Liverpool romped to a 3-0 win over Premier League leaders Manchester City during their Champions League tie on Wednesday night. But the Reds didn’t make it through the fixture unscathed. Reds’ leading scorer Mohamed Salah limped off with a groin injury. It is believed his injury was a slight groin strain and on Thursday, he posted pictures via Instagram of his oxygen tent recovery session. With Salah recovering from a knock and Liverpool preparing for their Champions League second leg fixture against Manchester City, don’t expect the Egyptian to play on Saturday. Instead, give Liverpool’s in-form midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a go in your Fantasy Premier League team.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
FPL’s official website lists Salah as 75% likely to play due to his groin injury. He joins the rest of Liverpool’s injured players including Emre Can, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez. Oxlade-Chamberlain has put in solid points performance when playing 90 minute matches.
The midfielder has secured double-digits just once this term. But Oxlade-Chamberlain has featured just five times for Liverpool and completed 90 minutes. He has still accumulated the sixth most points (84) for Liverpool players in FPL. Therefore, Oxlade-Chamberlain is a worthy addition to your FPL side in place of Salah this weekend. Manager Jurgen Klopp, who could be short on options, has got the best out of the player. If he starts, the Ox could put in a man of the match performance.
Liverpool’s remaining Premier League fixtures are favourable to the side. Liverpool’s most difficult match will be versus Chelsea on the penultimate day of the season. Against Chelsea this season, Oxlade-Chamberlain scored seven points as he tallied an assist. A match against Bournemouth is also to come, and Oxlade-Chamberlain tallied six points in a 90 minute run out.
The England international has proven he is a steady, capable Premier League player at Liverpool. Oxlade-Chamberlain is reaching new heights at Anfield, heights he never had the chance to soar to while playing at Arsenal.
