Manchester City star Bernardo Silva has spoken about teammate Kevin De Bruyne’s knee injury. Although many believed Manchester City would struggle against Huddersfield without the Belgian attacking midfielder, Pep Guardiola’s side showed just how strong they are by winning 6-1.
Manchester City star speaks about Kevin De Bruyne injury
The 24-year-old Silva has got off to a fantastic start this season for Manchester City. Silva scored in the team’s season opener against Arsenal. He has featured in both of the club’s games this season and gone the full 90 minutes in each.
The Manchester City star opened up about De Bruyne and the rest of the team in a recent interview.
“It is a fantastic squad. Even with Kevin injured we still have a lot of options – the players on the bench today were some of the best players in the Premier League,” Silva said.
“We know the squad we have and everyone has to work hard to have the place in the team. That’s good because it keeps everyone entertained and everyone knows how hard he has to work to play.
“Obviously, Kevin is one of the most important players for our team. Last season he was, if not the best player in the Premier League, one of the best.
“He is a fantastic player, one of the best midfielders in the world.
“It’s kind of a blow for us but we have other options as well. It means opportunities are opening for other players and that is good as well.”
Despite Manchester City paying £60 million for Riyad Mahrez during the summer transfer window, Silva’s play has shown he is ready to fight for a place in the side.
Silva played 35 times last season for Manchester City and scored six goals while assisting five.
“I’m happy I’m helping the team,” Silva said. “And I’m working as hard as I can to have my place and play as many minutes as I can and help the team get as many wins as we can.
“I think it was a great game for us. We started very well, pressing high, trying to score goals, trying to put as much pressure as we could on the Huddersfield defence. Happily, we scored three goals in the first half and in the end we won 6-1.
“It was an amazing performance by everyone. We didn’t concede much space.
“Unfortunately they scored from a throw-in that we could have defended better, but in the end, it was a good performance and we are very happy with it.
“We were not happy to concede but we knew how good we were playing and how well we played in the first half.
“We wanted to do the same in the second half. That is what we did and we are happy with the three points.”
Manchester City will play Wolverhampton Wanderers in their next Premier League fixture.
