West Ham fell 5-0 to Manchester City on Saturday afternoon at the London Stadium. It was an abject performance from the Hammers as Manchester City were never troubled by the hosts.
The day was so bad for the London team that VAR received the biggest cheer of the day from home supporters thanks to overturning Gabriel Jesus’s second goal of the day for an offsides call.
West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere got a starting role against Manchester City and struggled to make an impact throughout his time on the pitch. Wilshere was taken off after 56 minutes as he failed to cope with the pace of the game.
Wilshere attempted 24 passes while being dispossessed once. Although he completed 21 of his passes, fans turned against the Englishman as he failed to make a mark on the match. Wilshere’s defensive duties were also called into question.
West Ham supporters were not happy with Wilshere at all and expressed their views on Twitter.

Wilshere, who is now 27-years old, joined West Ham on a free transfer in the summer of 2018. The midfielder played just eight times last season before an injury ended his season. Wilshere did manage one assist last term.

Wilshere’s injury record has long been his biggest problem. Once a promising young attacking midfielder who received praise from all corners, Wilshere’s injuries and fitness have set him back as a player.
In 2018-19, Wilshere missed 30 combined matches for West Ham due to an ankle injury. Wilshere has missed a combined 185 matches during his career due to injuries.

West Ham will play Brighton in their next match in the Premier League. The news for West Ham doesn’t get much better as they are winless in four straight Premier League matches against Brighton. Three of those matches ended in Brighton victories.
Wilshere is under contract at West Ham until 2021. He is currently on £100,000-per-week for a base annual salary of £5.2 million.
