FPL Gameweek 26 is finally on the horizon after the Premier League took time off for the FA Cup last weekend. Some teams and players look tired and with the added midweek Champions League and Europa League fixtures, the season is getting congested.
While old names are sure to grace the FPL gameweek 26 top 5 defenders list, some new faces get a crack.
TIP: It seems Swansea’s rebirth has given FPL managers hope in the side’s players. Although their defenders scored big in gameweek 25, Chelsea is up next; so be very cautious.
Seamus Coleman – Everton
Games: 22; Clean sheets: 7; Total FPL points: 108
Seamus Coleman has cracked the top 5 in total points for defenders after his seven point performance against Middlesbrough last time out. FPL gameweek 26 sees Everton clash with Sunderland. The Black Cats were thrashed 4-0 by Southampton in their last match. So, an eighth Everton clean sheet looks promising.
When these two side met earlier this season, Coleman tallied six points as Everton kept a clean sheet.
Gareth McAuley – West Brom Albion
Games: 25; Clean sheets: 5; Total FPL points: 98
Gareth McAuley has been a constant on the FantasySports.co.uk top 5 defenders list this term. The Premier League’s eighth best side, West Brom are highly underrated in 2016-17.
Although McAuley only tallied two points in the team’s prevous match with FPL gameweek 26 opponents Bournemouth, the Cherries are far from the side they were in the league’s early stages. Winless in six and away to West Brom makes McAuley a solid choice as one of your gameweek 26 defenders.
Leighton Baines – Everton
Games: 19; Clean sheets: 7; Total FPL points: 93
FPL Gameweek 26 is the time to double down on Everton defenders. Sunderland are in town and a clean sheet is on the horizon for the Toffees.
Baines tallied eight points in a 3-0 away win against Sunderland in gameweek 4. Get him in the team alongside Coleman.
Alfie Mawson – Swansea
Games: 14; Clean sheets: 3; Total FPL points: 52
Who the hell is Alfie Mawson? That is what many fantasy football managers said after gameweek 25’s 15 point showing against Leicester.
But the kid has had some solid outing this FPL season, which makes him less of a fluke and more of a dark horse for points. Five times in 14 games Mawson has tallied six or more points. He will only cost you £4.5 to buy, which could be a steal.
Yes, Swansea have Chelsea up next. Despite the champions-elect being in good form, the team were held to a surprise draw at Burnley in gameweek 25. Swansea are much better than they were at the start of the calendar year, so give him a go.
Nathaniel Clyne – Liverpool
Games: 24; Clean sheets: 7; Total FPL points: 82
Nathaniel Clyne was an important part of Liverpool’s 2-0 gameweek 25 win over Tottenham. Since beating Spurs, Liverpool have enjoy rest and relaxation in Spain, and come into their match with Leicester having no pressure.
Leicester are struggling and the team will be coming off a midweek Champions League fixture. Liverpool should not only dominate, but the Reds have the potential for a clean sheet at the King Power Stadium.
Bonus goalkeeper
Joel Robles – Everton
Games: 10; Clean sheets: 6; Total FPL points: 54
Joel Robles cracks the top 5 this week thanks to his good form and Everton’s FPL gameweek 26 match against Sunderland.
We have gone heavy on Everton players, and this could be a major payoff as the Black Cats were hammered 3-0 by Everton last time around.
