Manchester City to Sign Dani Alves After Juventus Release

Manchester City are expected to sign Brazilian full-back Dani Alves after the player is released from his current contract with Italian heavyweights Juventus.

The 34-year-old will be let out of his Juventus deal after just one season with the Bianconeri. Alves was an important part of the Italian’s Serie A title win and run to the UEFA Champions League Final playing 31 times in both competitions.

Alves’ contract still had one year to run, but Juventus seem happy to let him out of his deal despite the player still being valued at more than £5 million.

Manchester City are eager to sign Alves as manager Pep Guardiola oversaw Alves during his time at Barcelona. Alves spent eight seasons at Camp Nou with four of which came under Guardiola’s stewardship.

Manchester City allowed veteran full-backs Gael Clichy, Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta to leave this summer. The club are still trying to rebuild its defence at the full-back position, and Alves would be the first defender to improve the team’s defensive position.

Manchester City are also linked with Kyle Walker, but the original price has been raised as Tottenham most recently wanted £60m for the player.

Dani Alves Key Stats 2016-17:

  • 2.5 tackles per Serie A match
  • 1.5 interceptions per Serie A match
  • 1.7 key passes per Serie A match
  • 1.4 crosses per Serie A match
