According to British media source Sky Sports News, Chelsea have been given the chance to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for £70 million. Fuelling the fire of his possible arrival, the player was photographed today wearing all blue. Many Chelsea fans have taken it as a sign he will join the club.
The Gabon international looks destined to leave Dortmund, and the Germans are already talking with AC Milan about a deal as well. Paris Saint-Germain are also keen, and the player was reportedly most interested in signing with the Parisians.
Aubameyang has been linked with Liverpool as well, but it looks like it could be a three-horse race for his signature currently. Chelsea missed out on the signing of Romelu Lukaku, and now want last season’s Bundesliga golden boot winner to join their ranks.
There is also the possibility that Aubameyang could land in China as Tianjin Quanjian have offered £71m for his services. The Chinese Super League club are also reportedly willing to give the striker a £800,000-a-week contract.
The 28-year-old is under contract until 2020 with Dortmund, but the player is interested in plying his trade somewhere else next season.
AC Milan are thought to be in the driver’s seat to sign the player, and the Italians have been spending freely this summer after being taken over in the spring by new owners. AC Milan have already spent £110m on new players and Aubameyang would take that number closer to £200m. The striker started his career with AC Milan, although he never made a first team appearance.
Borussia Dortmund are hopeful of signing Olivier Giroud to replace Aubameyang.
