According to reports from England this morning, Liverpool have sold Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona for €100 million. The Metro is reporting the player could be unveiled in Barcelona in the next 48 hours.
Coutinho was left out of Liverpool’s friendly squad in Saturday’s match against Athletic Bilbao, adding fuel to the fire of his impending sale to Barcelona. On Sunday, beIN Sports broke the news that Coutinho’s agent had told Liverpool he wanted to leave the club to join Barcelona; and the Reds had agreed to the deal.
The Spanish side have been attempting to sign the Brazilian all summer, but became more interested in adding him after selling Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain for €222m last week.
Liverpool selling Coutinho to Barcelona will come as a major blow to the club as the season kicks off next weekend. Liverpool must also play in the UEFA Champions League qualification round against Hoffenheim and losing the player now will make him difficult to replace.
Regardless of which player Liverpool adds to replace Coutinho, the selling team could hold Liverpool ransom knowing the amount of money the club now have at their disposal.
The Metro also stats Coutinho has agreed a five-year contract with Barcelona as the Catalan club attempt to regain their foothold in the Champions League and La Liga this term.
