Manchester United are close to the signature of highly rated French international and Monaco winger Thomas Lemar. According to French sources, Manchester United are about to usurp Arsenal in the winger’s signature after the Gunners had been working on a deal for the entire transfer window.
Despite Manchester United being linked with Lemar, the team already have an in-form Anthony Martial in the side. The club also have the option of playing Marcus Rashford on the wing. A move for Lemar may not see him gain regular playing time like he gets at Monaco, which could eventually turn off a move to the Old Trafford side.
Monaco had told teams that enquired about Lemar’s availability that he was one player not for sale this summer. So far, the team have held firm on their stance while other players have been sold off. Lemar was instrumental in Monaco’s 1-0 win on Friday night against Metz and is considered one of the club’s top attacking stars.
Monaco have already sold nine players from their Ligue 1 winning squad from last term. Three of the nine have signed with English Premier League teams. Manchester City have signed attacking midfielder Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy. Meanwhile, Chelsea bought midfielder Tiemoue Bakayako.
