Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku avoids Premier League suspension

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has avoided a Premier League suspension. The Belgian looked to have kicked out at Brighton’s Gaetan Bong in Saturday’s 1-0 win. It was expected by many that he would be suspended thanks to a retrospective investigation.

The Manchester United striker looked to have kicked out at Bong twice during Ashley Young’s shot that was deflected by Lewis Dunk. The shot ended up finding  the back of the net. The own goal proved to be the winner.

It was believed Lukaku would face retrospective punishment for his actions. However, it appears the three-person panel which reviews incidents such as this could not come to a unanimous decision on what the offence was.

If Lukaku had been found guilty of a violent offence, he would have been banned for three Premier League matches.

Jose Mourinho will be elated that no action was taken against the striker. Manchester United will face off with Manchester City on December 10.
