What’s wrong with defender Toby Alderweireld?

Alderweireld’s circumstances at Tottenham are being compared to Kyle Walker’s last offseason. Spurs have reportedly offered Alderweireld £130,000-a-week, and are unwilling to go any higher. The defender’s agent wants his man to get a significant increase. It is believed Alderweireld’s representative wants around £180,000-per-week.

While Alderweireld is a world-class defender and wanted by numerous clubs around Europe, injuries have kept him on the sidelines this term. It is claimed that Tottenham are not worried about being forced to sell Alderweireld, if he does not take the club’s new offer.

Due to Davinson Sanchez’s performances this season – he arrived from Ajax during the previous offseason – Alderweireld maybe allowed to leave.

Alderweireld’s current contract will expire in 2019. Manchester City have been linked with the defender and could approach Spurs much like they did when Walker was made available.

Tottenham bought Alderweireld from Atletico Madrid for £14.4 million in 2015. The defender is reportedly valued at £36m currently.

Tottenham may be ready to cash-in on Alderweireld, and Spurs’ fans are mixed on whether he should stay or go.
