Claudio Gomes – French teenage sensation

Gomes is just 17-years old, but he turned heads in the French capital at PSG. Gomes is expected to join the Manchester City under-23 squad as reports claim he is not ready for a first-team place.

The right-footed midfielder has played for France’s youth international teams. He has appeared 36 times in all competitions for those squads.

Gomes was not used by PSG’s first team while in the French capital. The midfielder spent five years at PSG rising through the youth ranks.

It is believed Manchester City had already worked out an agreement to sign Gomes in January of this year, but the formal announcement is yet to take place.

The Manchester Evening News states Gomes will train with Guardiola and the club’s first team when it reports to training next week. Gomes could feature in domestic cup competitions next term. The club could bring Gomes through in a similar way to Phil Foden.

Could Gomes be sold for a profit?

Despite wanting to bring youth players through the academy and into the first team, Manchester City have been unable to bring many into Guardiola’s squad until Foden. The defender only joined the first team last term after other former academy players had been loaned out and sold.

Manchester City had players Olivier Ntcham and Angelino come through the academy at one time. Yet, neither made the breakthrough to the first team. Both were sold having made little impact on the club. Gomes could train with the Manchester City team and be sold later for a profit to Manchester City. The money would then be used to reinvest in first team ready players.
