Manchester United are ready to sack Jose Mourinho in favour of Zinedine Zidane, according to reports. The Red Devils’ 3-1 loss to West Ham on Saturday doomed them to their worst start in nearly three decades. Now, Manchester United are ready to turn to Zidane to rescue their season.
Manchester United ready to sack Mourinho in favour of Zidane
According to sports network BeIN Sport, Manchester United have already begun negotiations with Zidane. The former Real Madrid manager was reportedly on the Red Devils’ radar back in August. Now with the club in crisis mode after a lack of results, Mourinho could find himself heading for the exit at Old Trafford.
It isn’t just on-field problems surrounding Mourinho’s team as the club has had numerous issues off it. Midfielder Paul Pogba had the captaincy taken away from him and January signing Alexis Sanchez has been left out of the team altogether.
Manchester United’s play hasn’t helped Mourinho’s cause. The team looks tactically inept while playing off the cuff.
The club’s hierarchy was reluctant to give Mourinho further transfer funds during the summer. Mourinho spent over £66 million on defensive midfielder Fred, teenage defender Diogo Dalot, and goalkeeper Lee Grant. There have been reports that the club wants Mourinho to spend wiser and get the players he has spent handsomely on to win matches.
Although Zidane had said he wouldn’t seek a coaching role so soon after leaving Real Madrid, the Sports Mole website states the Frenchman is studying English ahead of a potential move. Even before Manchester United’s loss to West Ham, reports of Zidane taking over for Mourinho were doing the rounds.
An interesting piece of news was released about Zidane over the weekend by Spanish football website Marca. The website stated Zidane attempted to quit Real Madrid last February, long before winning his third Champions League title. He was convinced to stay, however. Once again, all news outlets state Zidane now wants the Manchester United job.
Manchester United have lost three times already this season. Following the team’s defeat to West Ham, leading sportsbook placed Mourinho at 2/1 to be the first manager to go this season.
