Stuttgart won their first Bundesliga game of the season on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Werder Bremen. The game was significant due to one of the most bizarre own goals in Bundesliga history. Goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler’s mental lapse allowed Werder Bremen to score in the 68th minute.
The German side was able to find the back of the net minutes later to take their first three points of the season.
Zieler’s own goal came after failing to pay attention to Borna Sosa’s throw-in. Luckily, Stuttgart found the back of the net. Despite many people holding Zieler responsible for the own goal, others have lamed the blame at Sosa for throwing the ball in without checking if the goalkeeper was ready.
Stuttgart currently sit in 16th place in the Bundesliga. The win moved the team off of the foot of the German league standings.
Stuttgart face Hannover 96 at the weekend.
